Remove Cat Urine From A Hardwood Floor.

I just received this question…

“Dear André, I have a cat urine stain that has gone through the carpet, padding and is on the hard wood floor. Will your product remove it? After removal, I want to have my floors sanded and refinished. Do I have any hope, or will I have to replace the entire hardwood floor? Thanks.”

I Answer it this way… It Depends. If the entire floor is blacken from urine. (which is almost never the case) but you have one or two spots that has turned black.
it most likely is repairable. Once a wood floor turns black it means it’s been burned by the chemicals in the urine. It doesn’t happen with a just one or two deposits, but many. Usually it’s been several weeks.

The way to fix it is, you first treat the top surface to remove as much of the cat urine salts as you can. I recommend Pet Friendly For Odor.

It the fastest, easiest and safest way I know to remove pet odor from wood.

Apply it on and within 24-72 hours you’ll smell the difference. Then I would have it sanded.
In some server cases, the wood floor sander may have to remove a few boards. It’s because the cat urine has gone through and destroy those boards and even after sanding, they may not look good. When you are ready to sand make sure you get 3 quotes and ask each one how they will handle the dark boards.

Thanks for asking.
